Editorial

In 1984 I asked my local authority, Haringey Council, if they could use my illustrations in their leaflets as "I like drawing people". They gave me a job that day and I’ve been illustrating leaflets for local authorities, The British Council, the BBC 10 O’clock News and many other clients ever since.

Many of the jobs I have done for local authorities have involved illustrations of children with disabilities, as a sensitively drawn picture was often found to be more appropriate than photographs.

I was involved with in the picture, a campaign launched by Scope and headed by Quentin Blake, calling for publishers to include more children with disabilities in their work.

My work for the British Council involves illustrating their global partnerships courses and the latest work for them looks at cultural differences.

In August 2009 I did the illustrations for a film to help residents of care homes find out how to get help if they are being abused. It was animated by Garth Jones of Artillery and directed by Sarah Holmes of Inspired Services.
